Asham, Bandipora Village Protests against Water Shortage in the Area

Srinagar CNS, July 06: People of Asham area in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district protested against the water shortage on the Sumbal-Sopore road halting traffic for several hours.Reports reached CNS scores of people including women and children were protesting against shortage of water.Eyewitnesses told CNS that angry protestors also blocked Sumbal- Sopore road for hours over water shortage and against the indifferent approach of PHE Department Bandipora.While talking to media persons the villagers said authorities paid no heed to their grievances and are forced to consume impure water from other sources like rivers for their daily use.They added that the shortage of water has caused great inconvenience to them as consuming impure water will lead to the breakout of different deadly ailments that too amid spread of deadly CoronavirusSameer Ahmad, one of the protesters, told CNS that in modern times Jal Shakti department and district administration Bandipora has even deprived the people of pure drinking water.When CNS contacted a senior official in Jal Shakti department Sumbal, he said, “it is a genuine grievance of the people and we assure that necessary steps”.
