Bandipora, Sep 15, KNT: Jammu Kashmir Islami Tanzeem-e-Azadi patron Abdul Samad Inqalabi has gone for a hunger strike inside Sub-Jail Bandipora where he is currently lodged, family of the incarcerated separatist leader said on Tuesday.
Inqalabi was arrested by Army from the residence of slain Hizb militant commander Burhan Wani in Tral town of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on 6 July, 2017 and later handed over to police.
After being lodged for 13 days at police station Tral, he was shifted to Srinagar Central Jail. He was booked under Public Safety Act and since 2017 has been lodged in different police stations and jails including Kathua Jail, Srinagar Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal Jail, Hajin, Banipora, and Zainpora Shopian police stations.
He was recently released from Srinagar Central Jail but immediately arrested and shifted to Joint Interrogation Centre Humhama where from he was taken to Sub-Jail Bandipora.
His brother told news agency KNT that Inqalabi is suffering from different ailments and he has virtually lost his mental balance in custody. He said his incarcerated brother needs medical attention and against the callous attitude of jail authorities, he has gone for hunger strike.
“My brother Abdul Samad Inqalabi is observing hunger strike inside Sub-Jail Bandipora for not providing medical treatment. He is still on hunger strike and we are concerned over his deteriorating health,” he said and appealed authorities to release him.
He said despite court orders, his brother is not being given any medical aid inside the jail. (KNT)
