Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir: A video released by the Indian Army has shown dramatic moments of a terrorist surrendering before the security forces during a joint anti-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam.
Jahangir Bhat, who appears to be in his early twenties, had joined terrorism just a few days ago. An AK-47 assault rifle has been recovered from him.
The video released by the Army on Friday shows how one of the jawans managed to convince the terrorist to surrender. The jawan can be heard telling the terrorist that he is safe and asks him to come forward.
“Surrender for the sake of God, for the sake of your family,” the soldier said. As soon as the terrorist, identified as Jahangir Bhat, started the movement, the soldiers in the operation can be heard saying among themselves, “nobody will fire”.
Kuch nahi hoga beta (nothing will happen to you son)”, the jawan tells the young Kashmiri boy as he convinces him to come forward. He then asks one of his colleagues to fetch water for him.
The farther of the terrorist was also present during the operation. “There is increased support from civil society in these efforts including video messages by parents and family appealing to the youth to get back,” the Army said.
SPO missing with two AK-47 rifles surrenders
Jahangir, a 31-year-old shopkeeper, had gone missing along with a Special Police Officer (SPO) from central Kashmir’s Chadoora. SPO Altaf Hassan Bhat also surrendered before the security forces yesterday.
Earlier on Friday, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had said that a search operation was launched after input was received that the SPO had decamped along with his associate. The area was cordoned off by security forces and firing had ensued. The SPO managed to escape, however, Jahangir was nabbed, the Kashmir IG had said on Friday.
“On a specific input regarding presence of deserted SPO who decamped with two AK 47 rifles two days ago along with his associate in Chadoora area of Budgam, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police in the said area,” the statement said.
