Business activities resumed in Srinagar and other major towns and districts of the Kashmir Valley after curbs on non-essential movements and a weekend lockdown aimed at checking the spread of Covid-19 ended on Monday.All shops and business establishments were open and transport returned to the streets.The 64-hour-long weekend lockdown restrictions began at 2 pm Friday afternoon and ended at 6 am on Monday.The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir imposed a weekend lockdown on January 15 and extended it by 16 hours from Friday 2 pm on January 21 following a rise in Covid-19 cases.In a fresh order, educational institutions including coaching centres were told to remain closed for in-person teaching.The institutions, including colleges, schools, polytechnics, ITIs, coaching centers for civil services and engineering or NEET, will continue to adopt online medium of teaching.“There shall also be complete restriction on non-essential movement in the entire J&K from every Friday 9 pm to Monday 6 am,” reads the order issued by the State Executive Committee.The night curfew will also continue in all districts from 9 pm to 6 am.
