Silk and Woolen products of Jammu and Kashmir, known for their unique quality with traditional blend which contribute significantly in UT’s economy, are again set to be promoted and marketed in a big way at National and International markets.The Jammu and Kashmir government, as part of its endeavor towards reviving the economy of J&K, has roped in two Indian leading national business hubs to help employment generation in the Union Territory.Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Ranjan Prakash Thakur, during a review of Jammu and Kashmir Industries Limited, informed that Reliance Trends and Lifestyle would be selling silk fabrics and products being manufactured by JKI Limited. In this regard, an MoU has been signed between JKI and Reliance.He informed that, over the last three years, the government has invested heavily on the revival of JKI through development of its infrastructure by procurement of technologically advanced machinery. JKI has successfully commissioned the new silk weaving and reeling units in Jammu besides upgrading silk factory Rajbagh, Bemina woolen mills and Wool spinning units located at Solina and Nowshera respectively.With revival of JKI, the livelihood of a vast number of people associated with cocoon rearing and wool production has been secured. Besides, JKI is now providing a ready market for their produce within J&K at very lucrative prices. This has not only economically benefitted the people associated with production of silk and wool but has also resulted in revival of silk and wool sectors in J&K significantly.
