Jammu: J&K Govt Retrieves Prime Land Worth Over Rs 100 Crore From Encroachers

In a positive development, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Government’s Housing and Urban Development Department has successfully retrieved prime land worth over Rs 100 crore in Jammu from encroachers, reports Economic Times.

The prime land was retrieved by removal of decades-old encroachments under a special drive which involved the deployment of a strong contingent of police and civilian officials. They reached Jammu’s posh Gandhi Nagar locality and sealed all the entry points to the Gole Market area where the special drive was executed. As a part of the drive, authorities removed encroachments from seven kanals of prime land under the supervision of Principal Secretary of the Department, Dheeraj Gupta.

Gupta asserted that the land belonged to the J&K housing board and that the action was taken to protect their land.Gupta emphasised, “We have zero tolerance towards encroachments and the Government is committed to the removal of each and every encroacher from Government lands.”Meanwhile, it should be noted that the encroachers have claimed that they had been allotted the said lands decades ago, and have also pressed that the court had put a stay on any action by the Government. The J&K housing board has denied the claims and also said that the court stay is not on the land on which the action was taken.
