Srinagar, 02-Feb: Taking to social media platforms, netizens and political and social activists have expressed shock and anguish over the acid attack on girl at Hawal in downtown here on Monday. National Conference leader, Salman Sagar expressed hope that Police will act swiftly and nab the criminal.“Very very disturbing visuals, I am sure & have complete faith in @JmuKmrPolice particularly @KashmirPolice that they will act swiftly & culprits will be brought to book ASAP. They have very diligently solved such cases in past.Prayers & thoughts-with the victim & family,” he tweeted.“This is the worst example of violence against women & there is no place for any such action in any civilised society. We stand by the victim in this hour of pain & hope all the necessary steps are taken by the authorities to provide justice to her,” tweeted JK Peoples Conference.Peoples Conference leader and chairman DDC Baramulla, Safina Baig while condemning the attack, tweeted: “I express solidarity with the victim & her family and hope that the perpetrator of this crime is immediately brought to justice. I request the @JmuKmrPolice to act swiftly to nab the culprit & set an example by punishing him so that no one dares to commit such a crime again”.PDP youth leader and a renowned social activist, Mohit Bhan tweeted: “Deeply anguished & shocked it’s the second attack in 4 months earlier it was Shopian & now Srinagar. Enough is Enough! It’s time we put an end to targeted abuse & harassment women face online/offline every day. May the perpetrators rot in hell. #KashmirAgainstAbuse.”Socio-Political activist Syed Karar Hashmi has strongly condemned acid attack terming it shocking and outrageous act against humanity.In a message Agha Karar Hashmi expressed Concern over the rising graph of social evils and moral degradation in the society and today’s incident is “wake up call for Kashmir” to kick start an umbrella campaign against all forms of violence and moral degradation prevalent in Kashmir.Meanwhile, people across valley impressed upon to establish committees in every locality to monitor the shameful and immoral acts as also pervasive domestic violence and prevent these before they violate the dignity and threaten the safety and security of women.In Srinagar,Protest was held on Wednesday, the protesters who had gathered at the Jahangir Chowk demanded capital punishment for the culprits.In Jammu, Apni Party (JKAP) women’s wing, led by its provincial president Namrita Sharma, also staged a protest against the acid attack incident in Srinagar while demanding strict implementation of laws on crimes against women.”The enforcement agencies should deal with such cases in a stringent manner so that no one dares to carry out such attacks in future,” Sharma told On Tuesday, the girl (name withheld) a resident of Eidgah was attacked with acid in the Usmani Colony area of Wantpora.
