An armed group of at least 400 people torched several government offices on Friday in Arunachal Pradesh’s Vijaynagar region, near Indo-Myanmar border.

An armed group of at least 400 people torched several government offices on Friday in Arunachal Pradesh’s Vijaynagar region, near Indo-Myanmar border.

The mob burned down EAC office, post office, SB office and ransacked Vijaynagar police station.

According to Arunachal Pradesh police, the mob came from Gandhigram with dao, lathi, bow and arrow and torched several government offices and also attacked Vijaynagar police station.

The civil helipad of Vijaynagar was also partially damaged by the mob.

However, there is no report of any human casualty.

A press release issued by the Arunachal Pradesh police said the protestors were demanding cancelation of panchayati right extended to ex-settlers of Assam Rifles personnel and expulsion of these settlers from Vijaynagar at the earliest.The Changlang district police said that the situation in Vijaynagar is still tense but under control.Heavy security has been deployed in the area to control law and order. The Changlang district administration has appealed to the people to maintain peace and order.
